Мы уже сообщали, что гусеницы съедают Тисо-самшитовую рощу. Недавно стали известны промежуточные итоги деятельности самшитовой огневки: личинки насекомых распространились на 99% насаждений самшита и уничтожили его листву, также не менее 70% уникальных самшитников Хостинской рощи уже погибли.
Вредоносная для самшита, бабочка-огневка попала к нам в 2012 году вместе с посадочным материалом, который привезли из Италии для озеленения олимпийских объектов. Сразу же — обнаружив личинки огневки, специалисты решили обработать зараженные растения специальным препаратом «Актеллик». «Лечение» не дало ожидаемого эффекта, поэтому самшитовая огневка продолжила размножаться на территории Большого Сочи. В 2013 году бабочки проникли в аборигенные леса Сочинского национального парка.
Эффективных способов борьбы с огневкой нет: теплые сочинские зимы, отсутствие естественных врагов у гусениц, невозможность использования химической обработки, большое количество самшита в Сочи и высокая активность бабочек, которая за сезон успевает дать не менее трех поколений гусениц — сводит на нет все усилия сотрудников рощи.
