Что я знаю о WS (Wine Spectator — прим. SCAPP)? Прежде всего, это неотъемлемая часть PR-машины индустрии вина. Обожаю цитировать мною любимого Мишу Николаева («Долина Лефкадия»): «Мой милый друг, себестоимость самого дорогого вина вряд ли дороже 30 баксов».
И знаете, он прав! Не меньше 70% цены любого вина составляет мАркетинг. И благодаря таким изданиям, как WS, Decanter, Sarkesyn Gide и прочие, формируются не только цены, но и тренды на целые стили вин и их производство в огромных масштабах.
Однако WS уникален. Для меня это сродни журналу «Роллинг Стоунс» в музыке. Эдакий рок-н-рольщик подшофе, прекрасно сделанный американцами для всего винного (и не очень) мира.
История его стара, как я. Первый номер вышел в 76-м, а уже в 79-м журнал буквально взорвал алкогольный рынок. Ещё бы! Тогда эксперты умудрились вслепую перепробовать 10 000+ этикеток вина. Говорят, даже пара дегустаторов бросили пить. Но об этом в другой раз. Ох уж эти 70-е… Тогда всё делалось с душой и как в последний раз.

А Джеймс Саклинг, выпускающий свой не менее крутой рейтинг, когда-то был шефом европейского бюро WS.
ЁИздание выходит 15 раз в год. Новости, статьи, анализ и оценки разного калибра алкогольных напитков: не забывают публиковать итоги всех дегустаций. Каждый выпуск Wine Spectator предлагает обзор до 1 000 лучших вин ведущих хозяйств всего мира.
Но главное, что WS ближе к народу. Чаще всего читатель тут найдёт рекомендации к напиткам за адекватные деньги. Пожалуй, лучшее прикладное издание из существующих во все времена.

WS оценивает винные карты бокалами. Критерии количественно-качественные. Для получения 1 бокала — минимум 90 этикеток в карте, 2 бокала — 350+ этикеток, 3 бокала — не менее 1 000 позиций. На этом этапе всё понятно, однако оценка качества весьма субъективна и сильно напоминает судейство хоббихорсинга. Все слышали, но как-либо оценить стыдно…
